Phil Hellmuth

Born in Wisconsin in 1964, Phil Hellmuth is one of the most successful, and controversial, poker tournament players of all time. With eleven world series of poker bracelets to his name, Phil Hellmuth has won this title more often than any other player.

Phil Hellmuth lives in Palo Alto, California with his wife and two sons.

Phil Hellmuth first rose to prominence at the age of 24 when he became the youngest ever poker player to win the World Series of Poker. He achieved this feat by beating reigning champion Johnny Chan in Heads Up play.

Since taking this first win, Hellmuth has been a regular winner in the World Series of Poker, taking WSOP titles a record eleven times since his first win in 1989. Helmuth is an incredibly consistent player and has claimed half of the World Series of Poker titles in the last decade.

Whilst successful at the World Series of Poker, Phil Hellmuth’s achievements at other poker events have been more modest. Despite winning over half a million dollars at the World Poker Tour, Hellmuth has never managed better than a top three finish in the competition.

Hellmuth has achieved success in a number of smaller tournaments, winning the Late Night Poker tournament, the Poker After Dark Tournament and the first National Heads-Up Poker Tournament.

Phil Hellmuth was one of poker’s first real celebrities and has used his fame to become something of a poker guru. He has published several books on poker strategy and also acts as a television commentator for various poker events.
